The complete QuickBooks cleanup checklist
This is a step-by-step QuickBooks cleanup checklist — every check a senior specialist runs, grouped by phase — that you can work through yourself or hand to us. Tick items as you go; your progress saves in your browser, so you can close the tab and come back.

How to use this checklist
Work it top to bottom. Each phase builds on the one before it: you set a clean starting point, reconcile every account to its statement, correct what the reconciliation surfaces, then review the finished statements and lock the period so the work stays done. Skip ahead and you risk fixing categorization on top of balances that were never right.
Tick items as you finish them — your progress saves in your browser on this device, so you can stop and come back. Nothing here is sent to us unless you ask for a review. If the trickier items stall you, that is the moment to hand the file over rather than force it.
Questions about the cleanup checklist
Do I have to do the steps in order?
The phases are ordered on purpose — set the starting point, reconcile, correct, then review and close. Reconciling before you recategorize keeps you from stacking fixes on top of wrong balances. Within a phase, the order matters less.
Does my progress save?
Yes. Each item you tick is stored in your browser on this device, so you can close the tab and pick up where you left off. It is not sent anywhere; clearing your browser data or switching devices starts the list fresh.
Can I print this checklist?
Yes. The list is print-friendly — use your browser's print option and choose Save as PDF, or send it to paper. It prints as a clean, phase-grouped list you can work through away from the screen.
What if I get stuck on a step?
The trickier steps — tracing Opening Balance Equity out, clearing Undeposited Funds, a file that won't reconcile — are the ones people hand off. A free QuickBooks review will tell you what your file needs before you commit more time.
